Welcome back to all. I hope the new year is off to a good start for everyone. It seems that the only thing that remains the same in Central Valley for the last few years is that very little remains the same. This year is no exception with the opening of a new kindergarten center and the movement of Barker High School and Summit School to new locations. We are bursting at the seams with the expectation that this condition will remain a constant for some time. Changes are in store for CVEA as well. With the help of a grant from NEA and WEA we begin our first year with a full time president. I look forward to the challenges this will present and the increased opportunities for contact and communication with members that having a full time president will provide. Remember that the Central Valley Education Association is here to serve. Please contact the office if you have a question or concern.
On August 1, 2006 the CVEA, from the proceeds of our savings account, wrote a check for $15,325 to make the final payment on the CVEA Office. The members are now the proud owners of our office and the adjoining lot. While it is certainly not the Taj Mahal we are happy to call it our own. At a time when the District is predicting an increase of 5000 students and 200 teachers in the next ten years the elimination of mortgage payments will help us plan for and meet expenses of the Association in the future. Please feel free to stop by and say hello any time and see the office at 12202 E. Main.
Leaves
Emergency Leave days remain at three (3) per year.
Personal Leave days are three (3) per year with some restrictions:
Plan ahead for Personal Leave.
VEBA
A VEBA I account has been established in your name. The District contribution to this account will increase to $25 per month for 06-07 and $30 for 07-08. A VEBA I account can be used to defray out-of-pocket medical expenses or saved for use after retirement. In order to make withdrawals employees will be required to enroll in the program.
Reimbursement for supplies and tuition
We begin our second year of the $250 reimbursement for supplies and tuition. Receipts dated after June 1, 2006 are eligible this year for qualifying expenses. Last year 663 employees submitted claims for reimbursement, totaling $144,392.26. The average claim was $217.79. $48,000 was left unclaimed. Save those receipts. Let’s spend it all this year.
The Representative Council of the Central Valley Education Association is made up of the CVEA Executive Board and building reps from all buildings in the district. Each building is allowed a representative for every ten certificated employees. This organization meets once a month, usually the third Tuesday. The Rep Council is the heart of the organization. They approve the annual budget, select members of the bargaining team and must ratify any changes in the organization’s Standing Rules. More importantly they provide the most direct link between the members in the trenches and the Executive Board. Please get to know your Rep(s) and thank them for all they do. Three reps retired and as you can see from the chart below there are positions open in several buildings . Please consider serving. If you are interested please talk to your Building Rep or call the CVEA office.
If your name or address changed this summer it is important that you notify the Central Valley Education Association as soon as possible. This will help us keep our membership information up to date and will also insure that you receive your WEA and NEA publications.
You should also be sure to notify the District of these changes as soon as possible. Please call Personnel at 228-5440 and the Association at 926-0201. Thank you.
I plan to be in the following buildings during lunch to meet members and answer questions. kr
