The following members have been selected to represent CVEA at the WEA RA to be held in Spokane on May 14 - 16.
The following members have been selected to represent CVEA at the NEA RA to be held in San Diego from July 1 - July 6.
Voting 91% in the affirmative, the membership of the CVEA has agreed to lengthen the terms of the president and the vice president. Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, the term of president will increase to two years. Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, the term of the vice president will increase to two years. The two-year term will help provide for more organizational stability and the offsetting terms will assist in the continuity in transitioning future leadership teams.
Seniority lists will be in your faculty rooms soon. Make sure you check your data for accuracy. The important column is the one third from the right, titled years in Washington. If there are any mistakes or questions contact human resources right away. It is the responsibility of the employee to make sure the data is correct.
Volunteers are still needed for the WEA RA to be held in Spokane at the convention center on May 14-16. There are 7 different 3 hour time slots that need workers. Sign up with a friend for a fun way to not only help out but to see the legislative body in action. A short training session will be held before each session to explain all duties. Meals, sub costs (for Friday spots), mileage, childcare and parking are all provided. Check with your building rep for more information and a sign up sheet. You can call the CVEA office at 926-0201 if you have any questions.
The Attorney Referral Program (ARP) is a service provided to WEA/NEA members (active, life, educational support or retired, their spouses and dependent children) who need the services of an attorney on personal legal matters, i.e.,not employment related.
Participating ARP attorneys provide each member with two free 30 minute consultation sessions during each year of the program (September 1 through August 31). These two free consultations are taken separately and deal with two different questions. This benefit allows you to discuss your problem with an attorney to determine whether you need additional legal services. If further legal services are necessary and fall within the areas listed below, the attorney’s fees are discounted 30%.
You may discuss almost any subject during one of your 30 minute consultations excluding member’s business dealings, preparation of tax returns, bankruptcies, or defense of a criminal violation (other than traffic). Upon your initial visit to the attorney’s office you must present some evidence of NEA membership. Participating attorneys in Spokane are the offices of Powell, Kuznetz and Parker, PS (455-4151).
We get 3 personal days each year with the added benefit of being able to carry over 2 which would give you a total of 5. If, at the end of the year, you have more than 2 days remaining you will need to do something with the extras or risk losing them.
You can cash any and all of them out for the current sub rate of pay of $98 per day. Download a white timesheet from the MyCVSD forms page and write on it, “Please cash out ____ days of personal leave.” It has to be signed and approved and needs to be in by August 14, 2009. Payment will be made in the August paycheck. Contact payroll if you have questions.
The district budget committee has identified roughly 12 spending categories from classroom instruction to transportation of students and will seek input from staff and community to help prioritize them based primarily on the impact they have on our students in our classrooms. The results of these meetings will be presented to the school board to aid them in building the budget for the upcoming school year.
Your participation at any of these is strongly encouraged.
