Once again it is time for CVEA elections to the Executive Board. Your Building Reps will be conducting elections for next years officers as well as our delegates to NEA/RA in early March and the delegates to the WEA/RA in May. Thank you to those members who have chosen to devote their time to the Association and to public education. Those who are running for office are listed below along with information regarding experience and current assignment.

Steve has taught at University High School since 1984. He has served as Member at Large and Vice President of CVEA and as a delegate to WEA/RA and NEA/RA. Steve has also served on the Bargaining Team for the last three terms. He is currently CVEA Vice President.

The National Education Association Representative Assembly will be held in Los Angeles this summer. The CVEA will send four delegates to the RA. The following members are running for the three open positions. The other position will be filled by Steve Lalonde, CVEA Vice President.
The Washington Education Association Representative Assembly will be held at the Spokane Convention Center on May 12-14. The following CVEA members have applied to fill the 11 of the 12 positions that we are allowed. (The CVEA President automatically gets the 12th seat.) Your building reps will be conducting elections this month to select our delegation.
Thanks to all of the above for being willing to represent your fellow members at the convention.
Your CVEA Bargaining Team has been meeting in preparation for the beginning of negotiations in April. An integral part of that process is to survey members. Your views will help the team develop our bargaining goals. Your CVEA Building Reps will be distributing the bargaining survey in the next few days. Please take the time to complete the survey and help the team better represent you. If you have questions or want to discuss specific issues please contact a team member listed below or call or email the CVEA office.
In the last few weeks legislators have received more than 300 letters in support of a simple majority bill being considered by the legislature. The Senate Early Learning, K-12 and Higher Education Committee passed SJR 8202, a constitutional amendment authorizing the simple majority approval of school district levies and bonds. The House Education Committee passed HJR 4205, a simple majority for school levies.
While there are several more committee hurdles, the biggest challenge will be getting 2/3 of Senators to agree to put Simple Majority on the ballot. This is an important bill for teachers and students. Please contact your legislator and ask them to support this bill.
If you have questions regarding our collective bargaining agreement and cant find a copy of the agreement, it is available on line at the Association website at www. centralvalleyea.org. Our CVEA website manager Steve Lalonde has the entire contract with links to all sections on the website. You will also find links to our monthly newsletter and the school calendar as well links to other useful sites such as WEA, NEA and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Education. Thank you Steve.
