Once again it is time for CVEA elections to the Executive Board and the National Education Association Representative Assembly. Your Building and Reps will be conducting elections for next year's officers and our delegates to NEA/RA in early March. Thank you to those members who have chosen to devote their time to the association and to public education. Those who are running for office are listed below along with information regarding experience and current assignment.
Kent retired in 2001 after teaching in CVSD for 31 years. He served in various Association positions over the last 12 years including Grievance Chair, Bargaining Team member, Building Rep, delegate WEA/R A and NEA/R A. Kent is currently serving his third year as CVEA president.
Steve has taught at University High School for 20 years. He has served as Member at Large and Vice-President of CVEA and as a delegate to WEA/RA and NEA/RA. Steve has also served on the Bargaining Team for the last three terms. He is currently CVEA Vice-President.
Shirley it is serving her in her first year as Secretary/Treasurer of the association. Shirley has been in the district for 10 years and been a Building Rep for 8 years. She currently teaches at University Elementary and likes puppies and chocolate.
June currently teaches fourth grade at Liberty Lake Elementary. She has been in the district for 13 years. June has been a Building Rep for nine years and has been a delegate to the WEA/RA and NEA/RA and is currently serving as the Elementary Member at Large on this CVEA executive board.
Loren has taught in the district for 27 years and is currently teaching special education at Greenacres MiddleSchool. He has served as a Building Rep and last year was elected to the Executive Board as the Middle School representative.
Dick has been in the district for 26 years, all of them at CVHS as a math instructor. He has served as the department chair for math and as the head of the math of vertical committee. Dick currently serves as the High School Rep on the Executive Board and is on the Bargaining Team.
The National Education Association Representative Assembly will be held in Washington D. C. this summer. The CVEA will send four delegates to the R.A. the following members are running for the three open positions. The other position goes automatically to the CVEA President.

Washington Education Association elections for positions on the WEA Board the will be held this month. The CVEA has been fortunate to haveof Judy Wooten of Evergreen Middle School has a representative on the board for the last two terms. She is not able to run again because of term limits. However, we will still have an opportunity to have representation on the board. Loren Imus, a special education teacher at Greenacres Middle School is running for a board position. We thank Judy for her years of service and urge your support for Loren.
The Washington Initiative for National Board Certification will be offering 50 half scholarships for individuals pursuing a National Board Certification in the 2004-2005 school year. The cost of certification is $2,300 but with the scholarship it would be $1,150. The state pays teachers $3,500 per year as a salary bonus (subject to continued support by the Legislature). As a result of last year's bargaining agreements the association has begun meetings with the district regarding our certification evaluation procedures and instrument. The committee is reviewing potential changes in the evaluation process. If you have any questions or input on this topic please discuss them with your building a rap or one of the committee members listed below. Any changes in the process or the instrument must be approved by the membership.
A committee of CVEA members has begun meetings with the district regarding I- 728 expenditures. The committee is reviewing how I- 728 funds are being spent this year and the CVEA will be giving input regarding expenditures for the 2004 - 2005 school year. If you have questions or input regarding this process, please contact your Building Rep or one of the committee members listed below.
